Metal powder
Metal powders are essential for modern manufacturing processes such as 3D printing, powder metallurgy and coating technology. Their quality influences the component properties, but limited availability hinders the further development of additive manufacturing with metals. We develop and provide both standardized and new metal and composite powders in small and large quantities. We ensure the highest powder properties through material modeling, AI models, in-situ monitoring and tailored powder and component analyses.
Competencies
Material and process development for powder development
Atomization of small to large quantities
Analysis of powder properties
Preparation of semi-finished products
Downstream processes such as additive manufacturing and coating
Materials overview
Al- and Ti-based powders
Titanium-based alloys, such as Ti6Al4V, and aluminum-based alloys, such as Al-Mg-Si, are ideal materials for industrial welding technology and 3D printing due to their low density, high strength and excellent biocompatibility. We offer high-quality Al- and Ti-based metal powders with low hydrogen and oxygen contents and excellent flow properties. We also offer the option of developing customized alloys by preparing semi-finished products specifically for the atomization process.
Fe- and Ni-based powders
Our iron-based (Fe) and nickel-based (Ni) alloy powders include a wide range of steels, including 316L, as well as nickel-based alloys such as IN718. These powders are produced with a particle size distribution of less than 63 µm for the laser powder bed fusion (PBF-LB/M) process and between 63 µm and 105 µm for the coating technique in a very spherical form. The metallic powders can be atomized both in a pure atmosphere and specifically in protective gases such as nitrogen. With our comprehensive expertise in predicting and quantitatively evaluating the interactions between starting material, process, structure and component properties, we offer you customized solutions for your applications.
Composite powders (MMC and AMC)
Composite powders are traditionally produced using time-consuming and cost-intensive production routes. In recent years, we have developed a flexible atomization route based on the use of tailor-made cored wires. Various metal matrix composites (MMC) such as WC/Co as well as aluminum matrix composites (AMC) such as Al2O3/Al are atomized in narrow and wide particle size distributions in a very round shape. NMB can achieve higher wear resistance, modified tribological material properties and improved mechanical properties for your MMC and AMC through the targeted development of the metallic matrix and the in-situ formation of reinforcing particles
Recycled powder
An important focus is on the recycling of waste from additive manufacturing processes and machining. Residual metal powder, swarf and defective components contain valuable raw materials that we process efficiently. We reintroduce these materials into the production cycle by processing them into semi-finished products such as rods or powders. In addition, we use our powder analytics to optimize the use cycle of metal powders in order to ensure the quality of components and conserve resources.
